BRUSSEL\/PARIJS, 20 april 2018. ‘Another Day of Life’<\/em>, een hybride documentaire van Ra\u00fal de la Fuente en Damian Nenow, is toegevoegd aan het programma van de Offici\u00eble Selectie van het Festival van Cannes. Dat maakte de organisatie bekend. ‘Another Day of Life’ is een Pools-Spaans-Belgische coproductie, met Walking The Dog als Vlaamse partner. In Cannes gaat de film als speciale vertoning buiten competitie in wereldpremi\u00e8re.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

‘Another Day of Life’ vertelt het aangrijpende verhaal van een reis die journalist Ryszard Kapu\u015bci\u0144ski<\/strong> in 1975 maakte in Angola. De Poolse sterreporter bracht drie maanden lang dagelijks verslag uit van de grimmige onafhankelijkheidsstrijd die volgde op de Angolese Anjerrevolutie. Meer dan veertig jaar na het legendarische reisverslag brengt ‘Another Day of Life’ de ervaringen van Kapu\u015bci\u0144ski weer tot leven met een hybride documentaire waarin archiefbeelden worden aangevuld met animatie-elementen.<\/p>\n

\u201cMet de selectie van ‘Another Day of Life’ bevestigt het Filmfestival van Cannes dat ook sterke, auteursgedreven animatiefilms hun plaats verdienen op het jaarlijkse feest van de cinema,\u201d laat Vlaams coproducent Eric Goossens<\/strong> in een eerste reactie weten. \u201cHet is de beloning voor het jarenlange zwoegen op deze ambitieuze productie. Another Day Of Lifeis ook het bewijs dat fictie, animatie en documentaire een perfect huwelijk kunnen vinden in \u00e9\u00e9n film. Op het vlak van animatie is het originele hier dat alle animatietechnieken, van motion capture over 3D tot klassieke animatie, samen komen in \u00e9\u00e9n film. De selectie van Another Day Of Life is het beste bewijs dat de Europese coproductie van lange animatiefilms een grote toekomst heeft.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Vlaamse productiemaatschappij en animatiestudio ‘Walking The Dog’ van Eric Goossens<\/strong> en Anton Roebben<\/strong> was betrokken bij de technische basisstructuur van de film (\u2018pipeline\u2019). Een groot deel van de technische totstandkoming (compositing, lighting, shading, rendering) gebeurde ook in Vlaanderen.<\/p>\n

‘Another Day of Life’\u00a0werd geregisseerd door Ra\u00fal de la Fuente en Damian Nenow en geschreven door de la Fuente, samen met Amaia Rem\u00edrez, David Weber en Niall Johnson. De film is een coproductie van het Poolse Platige Films, het Spaanse Kanaki Films en Walking The Dog, samen met het Duitse W\u00fcste Film, het Hongaarse Pupperworks en het Duitse Animationsfabrik. De producenten van ‘Another Day of Life’\u00a0werden in maart van dit jaar nog gelauwerd als producent van het jaar tijdens de Cartoon Movie Tributes Awards op Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux.<\/p>\n

‘Another Day of Life’ wordt internationaal vertegenwoordigd door de Franse sales agent Indie Sales. De film gaat in Cannes in wereldpremi\u00e8re als speciale vertoning buiten competitie. Een Belgische releasedatum is voorlopig niet bekend.<\/p>\n

De Offici\u00eble Selectie van het Festival van Cannes bestaat uit twee luiken: de Competitie (aangevuld met speciale vertoningen buiten competitie) en Un Certain Regard. Die laatste sectie heeft als opdracht om nieuw aanstormend talent, gedurfde films en nieuwe filmtrends aan het oppervlak te brengen. Naast de Offici\u00eble Selectie zijn er nog de onafhankelijk van het Festival samengestelde programma\u2019s van de Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week), de Quinzaine de R\u00e9alisateurs (Directors\u2019 Fortnight) en het kleinere ACID (Association du cin\u00e9ma ind\u00e9pendant pour sa diffusion). De 71ste editie van het Festival van Cannes loopt van dinsdag 8 tot zaterdag 19 mei.<\/p>\n

Veel Vlaams in Cannes<\/h4>\n

Cannes kleurt dit jaar duidelijk Vlaams. Vorige week werd al bekendgemaakt dat ‘Girl’<\/em><\/a> van Lukas Dhont in de Un Certain Regard-sectie van de Offici\u00eble Selectie in wereldpremi\u00e8re zal gaan. Deze week werden ook nog twee Vlaamse films geselecteerd voor de Quinzaine des R\u00e9alisateurs: ‘Ce magnifique g\u00e2teau!’<\/em><\/a>\u00a0van Emma De Swaef<\/strong> en Marc James Roels <\/strong>en ‘Our Song To War’ <\/em><\/a>van VAF Wildcardlaureate Juanita Onzaga<\/strong>. De Vlaamse coproductie ‘Nos batailles’<\/em> <\/a>van Guillaume Senez<\/strong> is dan weer geselecteerd voor de Semaine de la Critique. De Vlaamse acteurs Tom Vermeir<\/strong> en Line Pillet<\/strong> zijn bovendien te zien in films die op de Croisette worden vertoond. Daarnaast werkte technisch talent uit Vlaanderen achter de schermen mee aan tal van geselecteerde films.<\/p>\n

‘Another Day of Life’, ‘Girl’, ‘Nos batailles’\u00a0en ‘Ce magnifique g\u00e2teau!’\u00a0kwamen tot stand met de steun van het VAF. Daarnaast investeerde ook het economisch fonds Screen Flanders in ‘Another Day of Life’.<\/p>\n
