Voor het vervolg op <em>King of the Belgians<\/em>\u00a0is dit de 25e internationale festivalselectie, na belangrijke filmfestivals\u00a0als Toronto, Rotterdam, G\u00f6teborg en\u00a0Cinequest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Barefoot Emperor<\/em> was de derde samenwerking van <strong>Jessica Woodworth<\/strong> en <strong>Peter Brosens<\/strong> met <strong>Peter van den Begin<\/strong>, na <em>La cinqui\u00e8me saison<\/em> en <em>King of the Belgians<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Peter Van den Begin over The Barefoot Emperor\" width=\"618\" height=\"348\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mIdNsmCs_RY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Naast Peter Van den Begin zijn er opnieuw belangrijke bijrollen voor <strong>Titus De Voogdt<\/strong>, Lucie Debay, Bruno Georis en Pieter van der Houwen. Daarnaast duiken ook Udo Kier en\u00a0<strong>Geraldine Chaplin, <\/strong>oudste dochter van komiek<strong> Charlie Chaplin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Na de Belgische premi\u00e8re op het Film Fest Gent in 2019 mocht Chaplin de Joseph Plateau Honorary Award in ontvangst nemen, als bekroning voor haar carri\u00e8re en haar bijdrage aan de internationale filmwereld.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>King of the Belgians<\/em> zag Nicolas III zijn koninkrijk uiteenvallen en in\u00a0<em>The Barefoot Emperor <\/em>zien we\u00a0hoe de laatste Koning der Belgen, de eerste Keizer van Europa wordt. Hij wordt in Sarajevo door een geweerschot gewond aan het oor en wordt daarna wakker in het zomerverblijf van Tito, de voormalige president van Joegoslavi\u00eb, op een eiland voor de westkust van Kroati\u00eb. Wanneer hij probeert te ontsnappen, wordt hij tegengehouden en door een speciale delegatie benoemd als eerste Keizer van het nationalistische Nova Europa.
