Drie Vlaamse documentaires zijn uitgenodigd voor Sheffield DocFest, het belangrijkste internationale documentairefestival in het Verenigd Koninkrijk (23-28 juni). Het gaat om My Paper Life<\/em> van Vida Deni (productie Clin d\u2019oeil), New Pigs on the Block<\/em> van Jimmy Kets (productie Las Belgas) en de coproductie Nelly & Nadine<\/em> van Magnus Gertten (productie Associate Directors).<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

My Paper Life<\/em>\u00a0volgt de vijftienjarige Rima, een tiener die gevlucht is uit Syri\u00eb en moeite heeft om in Brussel te integreren. De film is opgemaakt uit tekeningen van Rima die tot leven komen als stop-motion-animaties, verweven met sc\u00e8nes uit het dagelijkse leven van de familie die worstelt met het integratieproces.<\/p>\n

De documentaire van de in Brussel gevestigde Iraanse filmmaker Vida Dena<\/strong>\u00a0ging in wereldpremi\u00e8re tijdens Visions du R\u00e9el en werd er bekroond met de Interreligious Award. In Sheffield zal de film zijn UK premi\u00e8re beleven, als onderdeel van het Journeys-programma. My Paper Life<\/em> is een productie van Hanne Phlypo voor Clin d’oeil films<\/strong>, in coproductie met Atelier Graphoui en het Franse Les Films du Bilboquet. De internationale sales agent is Cat & Docs.<\/p>\n

Net als My Paper Life<\/em> zal ook New Pigs on the Block<\/em> van Jimmy Kets<\/strong> in Sheffield zijn UK premi\u00e8re beleven (People & Community-programma). In de film volgt fotograaf en documentairemaker Jimmy Kets drie varkens die de protagonisten zijn van een sociaal buurtproject waarbij een groep vrijwilligers hen voeren met voedseloverschotten. Het vredige bestaan van de dieren wordt echter steeds meer verstoord door de hen omringende buitenwereld.<\/p>\n

New Pigs on the Block<\/em> was in januari te zien op de Franse documentairefestival FIPADOC en komt vanaf 15 juni in de Belgische zalen. De productie is van Jurgen Buedts<\/strong> voor Las Belgas<\/strong>, in coproductie met Brightside. Jimmy Kets schreef en regisseerde, deed het camerawerk en verzorgde ook de montage, i.s.m. Febe Simoens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ten slotte zal ook nog een minoritair Vlaamse coproductie te zien zijn op Sheffield DocFest: Nelly & Nadine<\/em>, een documentaire van Magnus Gertten<\/strong> over een liefdesverhaal dat begint in een concentratiekamp in 1944 en een leven lang verborgen zal blijven.<\/p>\n

Nelly & Nadine<\/em> beleefde zijn wereldpremi\u00e8re in de Panorama-sectie van de Berlinale in februari van dit jaar en was sindsdien ook te zien op CPH:DOX. Het is een internationale coproductie met Associate Directors<\/strong> als Vlaamse partner.<\/p>\n
