BERLIJN\/BRUSSEL, 16 november 2015. Micha\u00ebl R. Roskam<\/strong> (‘Rundskop’, ‘The Drop’<\/em>) regisseert de piloot en de tweede aflevering van ‘Berlin Station’<\/em>, een hedendaags spionagedrama met in de hoofdrollen Richard Armitage<\/strong> (‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’, ‘Hannibal’<\/em>) en Rhys Ifans<\/strong> (‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, ‘Notting Hill’, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1’<\/em>). De serie die vanaf najaar 2016 op de Amerikaanse premiumzender EPIX zal lopen, is een productie van Paramount TV en Anonymous Content (‘True Detective’<\/em>). Roskam treedt ook op als uitvoerend producent van de serie. De opnames starten deze week in Berlijn.<\/p>\n

Auteur van deze originele 10-delige reeks is Olen Steinhauer<\/strong> die o.a. bekend is voor zijn romanreeks rond de Koude Oorlog, de Milo Weaver-trilogie – waaronder ‘De toerist’<\/em> (‘The Tourist’<\/em>) – en romans als \u2018Met geslepen messen\u2019<\/em> (\u2018All The Old Knives\u2019<\/em>) en \u2018The Cairo Affair\u2019.<\/em> In Berlin Station komt Daniel Meyer aan op het in Berlijn gevestigde buitenlandkantoor van de CIA. Zijn missie: de ontmaskering van de bron die de ondertussen beroemd geworden klokkenluider Thomas Shaw met informatie voedt.<\/p>\n

Volgens Paramount TV directeur Amy Powell<\/strong> is de keuze voor Roskam als regisseur van de eerste twee afleveringen van Berlin Station eenvoudig te verklaren door de \u201cpittige en uitgesproken manier waarop hij het film noir genre beheerst\u201d. Samen met Steinhauer \u2013 volgens Powell “een van de meest gerespecteerde spionageschrijvers van onze tijd” \u2013 vormt hij “het ideale creatieve team om aan deze rauwe, moderne spionagethriller te werken\u201d.<\/p>\n

Richard Jenkins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Naast Richard Armitage en Rhys Ifans zijn er ook belangrijke rollen voor o.a. Richard Jenkins<\/strong> (‘The Visitor’<\/em>) die dit jaar nog een Emmy Award kreeg voor zijn rol in ‘Olive Kitteridge’ en Michelle Forbes (The Killing, True Blood, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2).<\/p>\n

Brad Winters<\/strong> (‘Dig’, ‘The Americans’, ‘Boss’, ‘Oz’<\/em>) is de showrunner. Samen met Roskam zijn Steinhauer en Winters ook uitvoerend producent (executive producer) voor de serie. Dit samen met Eric Roth<\/strong> (‘Forrest Gump’, ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, ‘Munich’, ‘House of Cards’<\/em>) en Steve Golin<\/strong>, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts<\/strong>, Keith Redmon<\/strong> en Luke Rivett<\/strong> van Anonymous Content (‘True Detective’, ‘The Knick’, ‘Mr. Robot’<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Met de bestelling van ‘Berlin Station’ – een straight-to-series project waarbij meteen een volledige 10-delige reeks opgeleverd wordt in plaats van het succes van een pilootaflevering af te wachten – werpt EPIX zich nu ook vastberaden in de concurrentiestrijd met aanbieders van originele televisiecontent als Netflix, Hulu en HBO Now.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Na de regie van de twee eerste episodes van ‘Berlin Station’ zal Roskam zich naar alle verwachting toeleggen op de voorbereidingen van wat zijn derde speelfilm moet worden, ‘Le fid\u00e8le’<\/em>, een donker liefdesverhaal dat zich afspeelt in de Brusselse gangstermilieus. In de hoofdrollen zien we Matthias Schoenaerts<\/strong> en Ad\u00e8le Exarchopoulos<\/strong> (‘La vie d’Ad\u00e8le’<\/em>). Het scenario is van de hand van Thomas Bidegain<\/strong> (‘Dheepan’, ‘De rouille et d\u2019os’, ‘Un proh\u00e8te’<\/em>), No\u00e9 Debr\u00e9<\/strong> (‘Dheepan’, ‘Les cowboys’<\/em>) en Roskam zelf, die het verhaal schreef. Vlaams producent in deze Belgisch-Franse coproductie is Bart Van Langendonck<\/strong> voor Savage Film (‘Rundskop’, ‘D’Ardennen’<\/em>). De opnames van ‘Le fid\u00e8le’ staan voor volgend jaar gepland, met een bioscooprelease in 2017. Daarnaast is Roskam o.a. ook nog in voorbereiding van de piloot voor de HBO-reeks ‘Buda Bridge’<\/em>.<\/p>\n
